About the Kangaroos Development Academy

The Kangaroos Development Academy is for talented young cricketers aged from 13 and above who are keen on their cricket and looking to play Premier Cricket in the future.

Why Join the Kangaroos Academy

Take the next step from representative cricket to Premier Cricket.

Our Academy provides talented young players the opportunity to develop their skills within a competitive atmosphere. Players will participate in challenging activities designed to help improve their decision making processes, batting/bowling & fielding techniques and learn leadership skills.

Players will also be part of a talented squad where they will meet new friends and train within an enjoyable environment.

The aim of the Academy is to develop the players so that they can improve their skills in the short term, and also have the necessary skills to make the transition into Premier Cricket in the future. The Academy is run by accredited coaches from within the Premier Cricket coaching group.

Academy Structure

The Academy is split into two squads, The Junior Development Squad for players aged 13-16 who will continue to play junior & senior cricket at their local clubs, and the U19 High Performance Squad for players who have the potential to play Premier 1st XI in the near future, and are either currently playing at Greenvale Kangaroos or looking to play Premier Cricket in the coming seasons.

Junior Development Squad

The Junior Development Squad is for players 13-16 years old who have displayed a high level of skill within their club or representative cricket and would like to fast track their development by being provided with coaching and training that they would not experience in a local club environment. The squad will be provided with the following:
  • Specialist coaching in an elite environment
  • Access to Premier Cricket training facilities
  • Individual goal setting/performance appraisals
  • Education on training, fitness, diet and recovery habits required to play Premier Cricket
  • Ongoing mentoring to help players improve their leadership qualities on & off the field

U19 High Performance Squad

The U19 High Performance Squad is for players who have shown potential to be a regular premier 1sts/2nd XI player in the future. The squad is suited to either players currently playing at Greenvale Kangaroos in the lower premier grades, players who have chosen to remain at their local clubs to gain senior cricket experience or players who currently have regular school cricket commitments. Players will be provided with regular performance appraisals & one-on-one coaching to help them progress to play higher grade cricket. All new Premier Cricket players to Greenvale Kangaroos who are under 19yrs old will join this program to ensure they are given the support required in the early seasons to help them develop into better players for the future.

Both squads will begin training in July where coach’s will run specialist skills sessions. The squads will then meet at certain stages during the season for combined training with the main Premier Cricket squad.

How to Join

As players progress through the Academy, spots will open up for new players to join. At the end of each season, the Academy invites boys aged 13-19 years to attend trial days held in April. Our talent identification team attend junior games & representative carnivals, and players are invited to the trials based on performances in these games.

Players will participate in challenging and competitive nets sessions, and will be given general feedback during the trials. At the end of the trials, successful players will then be invited to join the Academy for inclusion in the following season’s program.

If you would like to register your interest in attending the trial sessions, or for further information, please email your name and contact details to the Academy coach (refer to coach’s section under Premier Cricket for contact details).
